Dijon, Rue Verrerie…
This magnificent café can be found among enticing antique shops we would have liked to browse if we'd had the time.
Minimalist and modern, welcoming and relaxing, the decor says a lot about the spirit of the place.
"Oops, I forgot about you" – 35-year-old Anaïs is already rushed off her feet and highly apologetic about the oversight.
It has to be said that it's lunchtime and we turned up sooner than scheduled ;)
Forgotten, yes, but our table is most definitely reserved and we'll wait until the end of service to interview the mistress of the house.
So why not take the opportunity to try one of the delicious dishes on offer?
The menu's definitely worth a mention:
a choice of 3 mains and 3 desserts. No more, no less!
The dishes are homemade, to order,
from fresh and seasonal produce (local and organic as far as possible).
1 meat main, 1 fish dish and 1 veggie option – there's something for everyone here!
To the delight of our taste buds, we understand from the first mouthful
why La Madeleine has such a great reputation (4.6/5 on Google, congrats ;))
This café and tea room is the brainchild of four young, energetic friends.
After a stint at the 4-star Le Richebourg hotel in Vosne-Romanée (where Anaïs was marketing & communications manager and Julien chef), our two hotel and catering specialists, together with two associates, decided to offer the Dijon public a gourmet and trendy sanctuary. A friendly place to meet and socialise, at any time of day.
The founders have achieved their dream of running a successful café, but not without some challenges: a few months after opening, the pandemic hit and forced them to reinvent themselves.
As well the delicious meals available on site, Madeleine Café now offers a catering service for all types of event!
Apparently they also serve a fabulous brunch here… we promise to go back on a Saturday!
Psssst, Anaïs has been wearing contact lenses since the age of 15... But we won't hold it against her ;)
If she had to wear glasses? It would be a slim, minimalist, contemporary and understated model. We could certainly find one of those in the collection!
